Neighbourhood Planning Council Funding 2018/19

Neighbourhood Planning Council Funding 2018/19

Monday 4th June 2018

A letter from Steve Quartermain, Chief Planner, of 30 May 2018 advises all Chief Planning Officers that the Government is announcing the neighbourhood planning funding arrangements for local planning authorities in the financial year 2018/19.

It confirms, "Neighbourhood planning remains an essential part of the Government's reforms to help local communities play a much stronger role in shaping the areas in which they live and work and in supporting new development proposals".

Local authorities can claim £20,000 once they have set a date for a referendum (following a successful examination) and £5000 for each neighbourhood plan area designated (up to a limit of 5), both subject to meeting certain criteria. Other updates to the funding include amended rates for claiming neighbourhood planning grant where a made plan has been modified, reflecting recently implemented provisions in the Neighbourhood Planning Act 2017.

The letter also reaffirms the Government's commitment to continuing to provide support for communities preparing neighbourhood plans. Details on applying for this separate funding and support are available HERE
