Spatial Development Strategies: PINS Advice Note

Procedural Practice in the Examination of Spatial Development Strategies
The Planning Inspectorate has published new procedural advice to inform the examination of Spatial Development Strategies (SDS).
SDSs are prepared by an elected Mayor or a Combined Authority so, for example, the London Plan is an SDS prepared under the Greater London Authority Act 1999 (as amended). The legislation and process for preparing, examining and adopting a SDS differs from that for Local Plans under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended). However, up until now, the broad principles in the Planning Inspectorate publication 'Procedure Guide for Local Plan Examinations' have generally been followed for the purposes of SDS examinations.
The new advice provides detailed procedural guidance on all aspects of the examination of a SDS, undertaken by a Panel appointed by the Secretary of State, and can be viewed HERE
