Mary O'Rourke

BA (Hons) DipTP MRTPI. Mary worked as a planning Inspector for 24 years on a wide variety of planning cases including determining proposals and appeals for large scale residential, minerals and commercial development. She also examined structure and local plans, including mineral local plans and national infrastructure projects. For 10 years, she managed other Inspectors, as a Sub Group Leader. Mary's primary focus in IPe is now neighbourhood planning and she has a wide and varied portfolio of completed examinations.
Prior to the Planning Inspectorate, Mary worked for Michael Parker Associates from 1987-1991, dealing with a variety of planning casework for private clients as a planning consultant.
Mary has also worked extensively in local government. She worked at East Sussex County Council in a number of sections including development control and minerals and waste planning. She was employed by Mid Sussex District Council on local plans and then in development control and by the London Borough of Hammersmith as a research planner.
Mary gained a degree in Geography (BA Hons) at the University of Sussex in 1974 and a post graduate Diploma in Town Planning (DipTP) from South Bank Polytechnic in 1978.
